McLaren has released details of its latest open-air supercar. The new McLaren 720S Spider has a light, stiff and extremely strong Monocage II-S carbon fibre core which features an integrated rollover protection structure (ROPS) which needs no additional strengthening over coupe and should result in similar handling capabilities.

The new Retractable Hard Top (RHT) has the lightest dry weight of 1,332 kg or 2,936 pounds which is just 49 kg or 108 pounds more than the 720S coupe. The 720S Spider has a new patented power carbon fibre roof system that delivers the fastest operating time in the supercar class, lowering or raising in just 11 seconds at vehicle speeds of up to 50 km/h or 31 mph. The Retractable Hard Top is available with an electrochromic glass panel that can switch between tinted and transparent.
