“It is as fundamentally exciting to drive as the Aventador SVJ but with an added exclusivity…”Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO, Automobili Lamborghini
Automobili Lamborghini unveiled two new drop tops at this week’s Geneva International Motor Show, the Aventador SVJ Roadster and the Huracán EVO Spyder.
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster
“The Aventador SVJ Roadster inherits all the power, performance and ground breaking aerodynamic technologies of the coupé, but with its own iconic presence and prowess,” said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “It is as fundamentally exciting to drive as the Aventador SVJ but with an added exclusivity: the option of the open air. With the same extraordinary performance roof on or off, the Aventador SVJ Roadster incorporates the dynamism of the coupé with the unique spirit of a Lamborghini roadster.”
The SVJ Roadster sports the ‘Super Veloce’ for superfast and ‘Jota’ suffixes, signifying the car’s performance and track prowess. The SVJ coupe set a production car lap record around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Both cars are powered by the most powerful series production V12 engine ever produced by Lamborghini.
The roadster roof, which weighs just 6 kg, is constructed from high pressure RTM carbon fiber and is removable via quickrelease levers in the cabin. Once removed it can be securely stored under the front hood.
The very fortunate 800 customers will start to take delivery of the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster this summer. The US MSRP starts at $573,966 or roughly $770,000 Canadian.
“The Huracán EVO Spyder incorporates all the performance, next-generation vehicle control and aerodynamic features of the EVO coupé, with its own unique personality and a driving excitement that only an open-top car can offer,” said Stefano Domenicali. “The Spyder continues the Huracán EVO’s evolutionary charge: extremely easy to drive while excelling as a highly responsive, fun super sports car. Particularly with the roof open, the emotive sound of the naturally aspirated engine and the refined, lightweight exhaust system take the sensory experience to a new level. The Huracán EVO Spyder’s design, performance and exhilarating open-air drive experience is literally breathtaking.”
The Huracán EVO Spyder features an electrohydraulic lightweight soft top that opens in just 17 seconds. It can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). As the roof silently lowers, two fins in the same color as the body, rise upwards out of the folding roof casing towards the seatbacks and once in place continue the line to the rear, enhancing the car’s appearance. An integrated duct between the fins reduces turbulence in the headroom during open top driving.
This is the second model in the V10 Huracán EVO line-up and features rear-wheel steering and a four-wheel torque vectoring system that is centrally controlled by the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI).
The first customers will take delivery of their new Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder this Spring at a suggested retail base price of $287,400 in the United States, excluding fees and taxes, or the equivalent of $386,000 Canadian.
