We were invited for a ride in one of the first 2017 Ford GT cars delivered in Canada, that belonging to Richard L’Abbe’s. For the occasion, we happily ventured to Calabogie Motorsports Park, about an hour west of Ottawa, Ontario. For a new Ford GT, Canadian buyers pay about CAD$650,000. But that’s only in the very unlikely case that they qualify for one. So far, more than 6,500 people have applied for only 1,000 total Ford GTs, which Ford will release in batches of 250 per year.

Ferrari took the spoils this time but the Ford GT’s will continue the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship battle, at the most prestigious sportscar endurance race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans June 17-18, 2017 in Le Mans, France.

In 2016 development testing, with all contenders track-prepped with new fluids, fresh tires and optimal suspension settings, in identical conditions and with the same driver behind the wheel, the 2017 Ford GT outpaced a McLaren 675LT and a Ferrari 458 Speciale at Calabogie Motorsports Park, which is about an hour west of Ottawa, Ontario. The 2017 Ford GT attained a top speed of 216 mph or 347 km/h, the fastest of any production Ford vehicle!
